What you will learn

Become a better manager of people by learning to apply key leadership theories and techniques to everyday business situations to achieve results.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Develop your understanding of the core and current frameworks, theories and tools relevant to twenty-first century leadership and management issues.
  • Understand the key skills, characteristics and attributes required to be an effective leader and manager - improve the leadership qualities you already possess so that you can understand how they can be developed and applied effectively.
  • Understand the key management functions of an organisation and the importance of leadership to successful teams.

Class format and activities

The course will be a mixture of lectures and tutor-set practical activities, both individual and in groups, that will ensure that students develop an understanding of key leadership and management issues
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

The course will focus on the following topics:

* The differences between managers and leaders
* An overview of leadership and management frameworks, theories and tools
* Individual skills, qualities and attributes needed to function as effective leaders and managers
* Introduction to key manager roles in organisations
* The key characteristics of high-performing teams - team roles and responsibilities
* The role of leadership in organisations and its importance in developing high-performance teams
* Identification of areas for self-development and growth.
* Development of an action plans to develop own leadership and management skills

Entry requirements

You need to be aged 19 or above.

To get the most out of your class you should have a good working knowledge of written and spoken English.
