What you will learn

In today’s environment, the ability to draw and to develop ideas using computer software has become an essential skill for all those studying or interested in pursuing a career in the fashion industry. This course will introduce you to fashion illustration using Photoshop tools. The skills you will learn are transferable, and will help you master other design software packages. This skill set will be instrumental in progressing on to other fashion courses.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Use Photoshop tools to create your own fashion illustration template
  • Sketch figures within fashion illustration proportions
  • Sketch clothes for a capsule collection
  • Use Photoshop tools and different image types and sizes

Class format and activities

This is an online course. You will learn a wide range of skills, and develop your own ideas. This course will introduce you to the following:
* Fashion illustration and clothing sketching (Computer aided design methods)
* Photoshop tools and image manipulation, correction and enhancement
Teaching methods include tutorials, formal instruction and demonstrations.

Assessment methods:
Achievement on the Fashion Illustration course will be measured by completion of activities and class participation. Your progress will be reviewed throughout the course. At the beginning of the program, you will have an opportunity to seek advice from your tutor, and establish personal targets linking the course’s objectives and your future goals, i.e. progression to another course.

• We use a variety of e-learning web apps to enhance the quality of learning, e.g. Moodle, Teams, Google classroom, e-tracker and Google sites. Powerpoint presentations will be available to view on Moodle after class.

• Your tutor will work closely with you to review your progress, and to build your individual learning plan. You will receive ongoing feedback to help you to improve your performance.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

You do not need previous experience in fashion subjects or Photoshop in order to attend this course. However, you will need to be eager to learn, and keen to explore ideas.

What you need to know before you enrol

Good attendance and punctuality are required from all students. Students are generally expected to allocate three hours for out-of-classroom revision, and normal part-time studying is usually 5 hours per week.
