What you will learn

This course is designed to connect learners with Pilates movement skills, in addition to helping them stay supple, by stretching and releasing tension from muscles and joints. The course will include developing core strength, toning the major muscles groups of the upper and lower body, stretch and release exercises for the muscles and joints. Through-out the course the emphasis will be on how Pilates based movement whether in the ex-ercise studio or at home can be beneficial, healthy and enjoyable.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Practise healthy posture and experience improved quality of movement
  • Co-ordinate simple movements using the Pilates method, including effective breathing
  • Tone and strengthen your body with precise fluid movements
  • Be aware of a mind/body connection in Pilates exercises
  • Feel stronger, more mobile and fitter

Class format and activities

Live Class once a week for the duration of 1 1/2 hours either studio based or via video conference

Video clips demonstrating specific exercises with detailed explanations and practice advice

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements -- however if a Student suffers from an injury or condition that could be made worse by exercise they should consult with their Doctor or Physical Therapist before beginning the course. Adaptations and modifications can be provided to suit different injuries and conditions, if unsure please contact the Department administrator. This course is not suitable for women who are pregnant.

What you need to know before you enrol
