What you will learn

On this course you will learn techniques for handling delicate fabrics such as chiffons, tulles, satins and velvets. You will be able to build on your existing knowledge and develop more advanced finishing skills to elevate the look of your garments. , We will cover how to cut fine fabrics, different seam methods, some couture finishing methods such as hand finishing, pin hems, rouleau loops, making bias binding out of fine fabrics., You will produce your own reference work of samples. It is essential that you read the entry requirements carefully.,

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Use techniques for working with fine, silky fabrics
  • Use cutting and sewing methods that prevent slipping
  • Use machine and overlocker settings to prevent puckering and stretching
  • Produce your own reference samples

Entry requirements

This course is an Intermediate & Advanced class. It is not suitable for beginners. , Before you enrol you must have achieved: , • beginners level of sewing techniques and finishing to a good standard, in preparation for working at an intermediate level, • Understand grainline, notches and balance marks. , • Be competent at threading and using a sewing machine. , students must be able to speak, read and write in English, basic numeracy skills are an advantage.,

What you will need for your class

• a sewing kit: fabric scissors, trimming scissors, tape measure, and a selection of fine sewing needles and threads., • dressmaker’s pins and tailors chalk., • pens, pencils, notebook, A4 ring binder, • A fabric pack will be provided at your first lesson at a charge of approximately £20.,
