What you will learn
Develop dance skills to communicate a personal and collective expression of emotion and narrative through a rich mix of vocal and physical language. Work towards sharing your skills through performance.
Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the following learning outcomes. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e. progression to an advanced-level course.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Develop an initial idea into a dance sequence or action
- Explore movement related elements through short excursions (movement improvisation, speech etc.)
- Learn material from others and work effectively together as a team
- Perform with expression, precision and passion
Class format and activities
Mode of delivery: Online Plus
For sessions when students will be participating in class remotely, via live-stream link-up – and thus joining fellow students located in-studio, you will be guided how to adapt studio-based exercises in order to participate effectively throughout the class.
The tutor will also set assessment activities involving student exchange of ideas and student self-assessment for all students, whether you are participating in-studio or via live-stream.
We will be using Microsoft Teams as our online platform for live-stream link-up. Additionally, use of other platforms such as Microsoft Stream and Moodle may be used for sharing useful web links, course materials and class news.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
Creativity and openness to improvisation are essential for this course. The actual complexity of the generated dance sequences will depend on your personal level and can be adapted. Thus, even if you do not have the best dance technique, you will enjoy and profit from this course. You should join if:
• you want to explore and develop new ways of expressing emotions through movements
• you enjoy working in a team and creating something together
• you want to learn more about composition and choreography
• you like to present work as part of a performance
