What you will learn
This course covers, making a skirt block from the student's or a client’s own measurements. You will design, cut, fit, toile a sample and make a skirt using many garment making techniques needed to finish the project.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Understand the progression from block making to finished item.
- Take accurate personal body measurements.
- Prepare pattern and fabric lays.
- Understand sewing techniques for garment making.
Class format and activities
Mode of delivery will be in centre with social distancing. Typical activities will take place in the format of direct teaching with tutor demonstrations, peer discussions, practical skill development and use of examples. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have the opportunity to discuss this with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals. i.e progression to another course.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
This course is open to students with some experience in sewing techniques.
What you need to know before you enrol
Good attendance and punctuality is important for this course as it is intensive.
Some work from home if possible.
What you will need for your class
Fabric scissors, paper scissors, pencils (HB), ruler, set square, tape measure, pins,
stitch unpicker, tracing wheel, tailors chalk or marker pencil. Hand sewing needles, thread to match fabric, one black and one white, and an A4 file and punch pockets for handouts.
Lecturer will give advice on suitable fabrics and amounts needed for skirt project at the beginning of the course.
