What you will learn

Develop your technique, musicianship and knowledge of jazz through playing, listening and group discussion. Taught on two acoustic pianos in a masterclass format. For players with a least four years’ experience playing jazz piano. A professional bass player will join the class twice a term to support learners and help them to improve their jazz ensemble playing skills.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

Several years of previous jazz piano study, completion of Jazz Piano 4A, B and C
Working knowledge of basic jazz theory, chord symbols, modes, etc
Well developed improvisation and coordination skills
Time to practise between classes and commitment to attend every week
Music reading ability

What you need to know before you enrol

Homework will be given every week and students must be prepared to spend time doing the given assignments and preparing tunes for performance in class.

MP3 or other recording device (optional)
