What you will learn

Train to practice beauty therapy professionally. This is the essential qualification for anyone who wishes to work as a beauty therapist, either in a salon or on a self-employed basis. Please contact the health studies department on 020 7450 1861 for an application form and to book an interview for a place on this course.

  • Promoting products and services to clients in salon
  • Facial treatments
  • Waxing temporary methods of hair removal on the leg, underarms and eyebrows
  • Manicure and Pedicure
  • Application of Make-up
  • Eyelash tinting and shaping and strip and individual lashes

Class format and activities

You will learn through lectures and demonstrations. You will practice in class on both fellow students and clients. You will complete written theory assignments and will attend exhibitions. There may also be visits from guest speakers such as make-up artists and product demonstrations. In order to achieve the qualification you will produce a portfolio of evidence of all of your work which will be assessed by your tutor and CIBTAC.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements

You will need to apply online and complete the electronic application form. We will then contact you to arrange a pre-enrolment interview. You must have good level of written English and computer literate with an ability to use a word processing package such as Word in order to and complete the written assignments which form part of the overall qualification. Good communication skills and a high standard of personal hygiene are essential. An understanding of scientific terms and basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology would be useful.

What you need to know before you enrol

This is a very demanding course with a heavy work load, you are expected to do substantial background reading and practice at and home on friends and family as well as existing clients within the college. You are required to be available every Monday from 10- 5pm.

What you will need for your class

A4 folder, and pad, pens and pencils, rubber coloured markers and clip board. Plastic wallets, manicure & pedicure starter kits, facial starter kit. Tweezers, comedon extractor, small nail scissors, large and small cosmetic sponges, make- up set and make-up brushes, head band, small mirror and small hand towel
