What you will learn
Learn the basic hand stitches and develop interesting variations using a range of yarns, thread and fabrics. Explore colour combinations and textural effects. Gain essential stitchery know how in this fully supported class which is aimed at beginners.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Learn to work all the basic stitches with small interesting challenges
- Develop variations, changing scale, working one set over another and using a wide range of threads and yarns
- Learn how to use simple free motion machine embroidery
- Choose to combine hand and machine stitch.
Class format and activities
Work in a friendly and supportive studio, with individual and group tuition. Handling samples, images and handouts will inspire creative development.
A series of bite-sized tasks will enable quick learning and attractive sampler results.
Work with choices of yarns and colour palettes.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
Suitable for beginners, improvers and refreshers.
What you need to know before you enrol
The studio is on the second floor of the Nancy Seear building.
Disabled access via lift to the first floor, and stair lift to the second floor.
What you will need for your class
Basic materials and yarns are provided, but please bring a basic sewing kit, also any favourite yarns or scraps of firm plain fabric if you have them.
