What you will learn

Experience the fun of painting directly onto fabric. Using colourfast inks, work directly on to cloth producing textiles which can then be sewn, embellished and developed for all sorts of uses - clothes, cushions, blinds, curtains…...

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • paint your own cushion, bag, wall hanging or simple clothes
  • learn techniques of painting directly onto calico
  • plan a pattern or design for chosen use
  • make a colour palette

Class format and activities

Students will look at many examples of hand-painted cloth.
Students will work on paper first to get the feel of painting freely, loosen up and familiarise themselves with scale. We will consider pattern placement and we will practice painting directly onto cloth.
Students will plan to work on at least one finished piece which can then be made into the product of their choice

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
