What you will learn
Previous experience in ballet is not necessary for this workout that creates long lean toned muscles like a ballet dancer. The class will consist of dance cardio, with a basis in ballet. The class will consist of movement and toning exercises on the floor (similar to floor-barre) and at the barre to create a strong toned physique.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Specify both neutral and imprinted spine
- Adopt correct and safe alignment throughout class
- Demonstrate sequences of movement, including ballet movements
- Manage areas of strength and weakness
Class format and activities
You will be working to tone and strengthen the body. Starting with a warm-up, some cardio and then moving on to exercises both on the floor and at the barre, before finishing off with a cool down/stretch. The class holds some elements of ballet, yoga and pilates.
In addition to your dance practice, study can include the use of digital resources such as film & photography, useful websites and connection with online communities of interest via social media to enhance your learning.
Dance study offers a range of benefits including being an enjoyable way to increase fitness whilst enhancing wellbeing. Dance practice at Morley can also serve to enhance skills relevant for employment by means of encouraging increased confidence, physical dexterity and concentration.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

What you need to know before you enrol
You should have a reasonable level of fitness but is open to all levels. Your tutor will be able to adapt exercises to suit particular learning needs.
Photography and film recording of class activities may be used in order to aid learning. These images may also be used for publicity or marketing materials produced by Morley College, both online and in print. You will have the opportunity to either confirm or decline consent to being filmed or photographed.
What you will need for your class
You should wear a fitted vest/t-shirt and leggings/close fitting tracksuit bottoms. The majority of the time you will be in bare feet but bring socks as some exercises with require them. You may like to bring a towel and a bottle of water.
