What you will learn
This introductory course in drawing with stitch starts at the beginning; from setting up your sewing machine and using it as a drawing tool, to combining stitched effects with simple applique using found and recycled fabrics. Explore and sample stitch as mark and line and use appliqué to introduce colour, shape and different fabric qualities. Develop imagery through using simple set drawing exercises and your own photographs or references. Translate these starting points onto fabric to create an individual stitched composition exploring colour, shape and line.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Use a sewing machine for machine embroidery
- Develop imagery to translate through stitch
- Use the sewing machine to explore different line and mark qualities
- Use bondaweb and applique to introduce coloured shape and found/recycled fabrics
- Create a collection of samples and a stitched composition
