What you will learn

Learn to make nuno felt, combining multi coloured meriono wool with fine silks, cottons or viscose to create your own unique and stylish summer wrap. Decorate with embroidery and other embellishing techniques. Suitable for all levels.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • have an understanding of felt making and more specifically nuno felt making practices, a sustainable textile practice.
  • apply and felt merino wool fibres to a natural material
  • create patterns using nuno felt making techniques
  • produce a summer wrap ready to wear

Class format and activities

Tutor will give a talk on felt making illustrated with examples. The tutor will demonstrate nuno felt making using a variety of fabrics. Students will do sampling to explore texture, shrinkage of fibres and fabric before working on their main piece.
There will be regular feedback by tutor.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

What you need to know before you enrol

The studio is on the second floor. There is access to the first floor by lift then steps up to the studio.

What you will need for your class

An apron.
A 2-3m length of plain or patterned habotai silk, fine muslin, fine viscose cloth or light weight vintage silk sari.
