What you will learn

Learn how to create off loom beaded pieces using seed beads. We will explore how to create beaded jewellery using techniques such as beaded netting and right angle weave, making a bracelet using the skills you learn on the day.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • complete at least one necklace (or bracelet)
  • understand how to identify or create more than one beading technique
  • understand the differences between seed beads and the effect they have on a finished piece
  • be able to finish off neatly a beaded piece

Class format and activities

After looking at and discussing examples and samples, the tutor will demonstrate techniques of off loom bead weaving, and show you how to create a beaded netting bracelet
You will then produce a practice piece of jewellery using the materials provided to become familiar with the techniques.
In the afternoon you will continue to practice with your own designs and work through any problems and questions with help from the tutor.
There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience, through discussion, show and tell and group crit. The tutor will facilitate group discussions and work with the students one-to-one and in groups.

Entry requirements

No previous experience of jewellery making is necessary. Enthusiasm is an asset!

What you need to know before you enrol

This is a practical course and will require hand skills for working with threads, small beads and knotting techniques.

What you will need for your class

any seed beads that you may have for using within a new project.
• a notebook, a pen, a pair of small scissors and a fabric tape measure.
• Beads are provided in the class for learning the techniques.
