What you will learn

Still stuck in the 'Auto' mode on your camera? Want to take better pictures? This course is for beginners who own a Digital Camera and want to learn more of its functions. Learn how to operate your camera in manual mode, make correct exposures in a range of situations and understand aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focus and more. This course will give you creative control over your camera thereby encouraging you to take photographs with intention, rather than letting the camera do all the work. This intensive, creative course will increase your confidence and you will soon see your skills - and your photographs - improving.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Expose images correctly
  • Choose the right settings for particular scenes
  • Good use of lens focal length
  • Good use the aperture and shutter speed controls
  • Produce interesting images

Class format and activities

You will be learning camera technique in groups with time each session to practice what you have learnt and homework to practice out of the college. You will learn new aspects of using your camera each week to help you gain understanding in all its features. Teaching is both in groups and on an individual, one-to-one basis, with technical advice and support depending on your needs. The tutor will give demonstrations, presentations and lead group discussions around technical and creative subjects.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
