What you will learn

An introduction to the Greek language and culture. Communicate at a basic level using the Greek alphabet and pronunciation, order drinks and food, ask for directions, meet and introduce people.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • Converse with Greek speakers at a basic level, greetings, exchanging names and professions, saying where you are from and where you live
  • Apply the Greek alphabet to write single words and basic sentences
  • Make basic requests and carry out simple transactions (e.g. in shops, restaurants
  • Understand simple messages and text (e.g. basic menu and ask for a snack, drink and prices)
  • Describe locations and objects and where to find them

Class format and activities

Practising speaking, listening, reading and writing skills
Learning through practical activities (individual tasks, role-plays, pair and small group work, games,)
Writing basic single words and short sentences, e.g. gap-filling, grammar exercises
Following and giving simple presentations
Listening for the gist or basic information
Revising on topics (e.g. vocabulary) and grammar points

Constructive and supportive feedback from your tutor will help you succeed during the class.
