What you will learn
Possess a basic knowledge of the Italian language through exposure to the target language. You should be able to recognise and use basic structures, take part in conversations about daily life by asking and answering questions, know the basic rules of pronunciation, and read short, communicative texts.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Use basic greetings and courtesies e.g. 'good morning', 'excuse me', 'yes/no, thanks'
- Recognise and use basic structures (e.g. to express likes and dislikes, and comment on the cost of things)
- Take part in conversations about daily life by asking and answering questions, and making requests
- know the basic rules of pronunciation, and read short, communicative texts
Class format and activities
You will be involved in a variety of activities which try to meet all students’ needs and take their different learning styles and learning pace into consideration. Through them you will practise the four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, focusing mainly on speaking and listening in order to be able to communicate in everyday situations. You will be exposed to the target language through authentic material tailored specifically to meet your, such as watching short videos or listening to music.
You will be in a friendly and relaxed classroom atmosphere and you will be involved in engaging activities such as role-plays and didactic games. You will gain understanding of grammar rules through guided discovery tasks . You will also consolidate your learning through frequent revision of previous lessons.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
This course is suitable for complete beginners with no prior exposure to the language.
What you need to know before you enrol
Regular work is given to be done at home to support and consolidate your learning. You should therefore dedicate some time for this on a weekly basis. The tutor will inform you of the course book at the start of term.
The tutor uses Moodle regularly to support your learning. It is important that you have access to a computer for the duration of the course and that you consult Moodle at least once a week.
