Community Learning at Morley shortlisted for Tes Award
We're excited to announce that the Morley College London Centre for Community…
Connect and Discover – Wellbeing through Learning, is a series of courses designed to support the recovery of adults with mild or moderate mental health needs, including depression, anxiety or sleep disorders.
Having been awarded grant funding from the Skills Funding Agency, Morley College is working with a range of NHS and voluntary sector partners to offer a new partnership network in Southwark to support adults’ recovery, promote wellbeing and develop mental health resilience.
The project’s aim is to establish strong links between local education, community and mental health services in Southwark and offer support to over 500 adults to access relevant services and courses. Morley will co-ordinate, co-produce and co-deliver a range of short courses to complement established local voluntary sector and mental health services. The programme will include an engaging range of art, exercise, food and gardening courses, as well as practical sessions about managing life and mental health.
Dr Andrew Gower, Morley College’s Principal, says: “We know the impact of adult education in terms of gaining knowledge, skills and employability. I’m delighted that now we are also exploring the essential part learning plays in the recovery from mild mental health issues. Morley College is leading the way in offering learning designed to support adults on their journey to wellbeing.”
Dr Janet Wingrove, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Director of Southwark Psychological Therapies Service, one of the project’s partners, says: “We are delighted to be part of this exciting project led by Morley College, which we believe will be really valued by our service users and help them achieve recovery and increase their resilience and wellbeing”.
