Greek-born conductor, vocal coach and pianist Michalis Angelakis trained at the Royal Academy of Music (Lucille Graham Fellowship in Opera Conducting), the National Opera Studio (trainee repetiteur), the Trinity College of Music (Master of Music & Postgraduate Diploma in Piano Accompaniment) and the Conservatoire of Athens (Piano Diploma).
As music director and repetiteur, he has worked with a number of companies, including English Touring Opera, Hampstead Garden Opera, Opera Up Close, Pop-Up Opera and Kentish Opera. He is also a member of staff at the Royal Opera House Learning and Participation, where he has worked with the ROH chorus, the ROH Thurrock Community Chorus and accompanied singers from the Jette Parker Young Artists programme.
He has appeared in venues such as the ROH, the St. Martin in the Fields, the Cadogan Hall, as well as venues in Manchester, Cologne, Ljubljana, Athens and Crete.
Michalis’ first collaboration with the Opera School at Morley dates back to 2010 when he was engaged as visiting vocal coach. In 2013 he was promoted to Senior Opera Coach and in 2015 to Course Leader, managing the course and conducting the students’ public showcases of opera scenes. Alongside the Opera School, he has accompanied a variety of vocal courses including Richard Jackson’s advanced Lieder masterclasses, Anthony Roden’s Opera Arias masterclasses, Maddy Holmes’ Solo Singing 5&6, and he has also taught piano-related courses, such as Keyboard Skills and Score Reading and Piano Technique Workout.
