Julia has been an actor for over 40 years, a drama tutor for 22 years. She trained at Italia Conti Theatre Arts, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and has a PGCE from Canterbury University. As a drama tutor, coach and director she has taught at Royal College of Music Opera School, Kensington & Chelsea College, Richmond Community College, City and Islington College, Morley College London, and for the past five years has been a drama coach for Disney’s Cub School programme, preparing children to play the young Simba and Nala for the Lion King musical in London and national touring productions.
As an actor, Julia has worked extensively in theatre, television, film, radio, and advertising. Theatre work includes RSC at the Barbican and Stratford, Mermaid Theatre, Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, Kings Theatre Glasgow, and Bristol Old Vic. Repertory at Middlesborough, Chipping Norton, Worcester, Cannock, and numerous national tours. Television work includes leading roles in BBC and ITV adaptations; Katy, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Barriers, Juliet Bravo, Shadows, and The Ravelled Thread. Radio plays for the BBC World Service, and numerous Scandinavian Schools' radio plays. Julia recently appeared in the film Their Finest with Bill Nighy, and is soon to be seen in series 3 of The Crown playing Dora Gaitskell, wife of the leader of the Labour party of the time!
As a director, college productions include: The Blue Room by David Hare, Fen by Caryl Churchill, Party Time and Mountain Language by Harold Pinter, Sweet Charity, The Crucible, Company by Steven Sondheim, Confusions by Alan Ayckbourne, and most recently Under Milkwood by Dylan Thomas for Morley Radio, which is available as a podcast.
