Dimitris Karydis was born in Heraklion, Greece. He took his soloist diploma (and award of excellence) from the Athens Conservatoire; he then moved to London, where he studied at the Royal Academy of Music, receiving scholarships from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation and the 'Gina Bachauer' Foundation, studying with Frank Wibaut and Dominique Merlet. He has also studied with James Gibb and Martino Tirimo and holds a Master of Arts in Performance (with distinction) and a Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the City University.
The Academy of Letters and Arts in Athens has awarded him the Eleni Mikoniou prize; he was also awarded a special prize at the Grand Prix Maria Callas. Dimitris has performed in many European cities (England, Spain, Greece, Italy, Germany Switzerland, Ukraine, Slovakia, Czech Republic), as well as in Israel, Japan, Venezuela, Canada and the U.S.A. He has also recorded for the Greek, Czech and Bavarian Radio.
His piano duo "Antithesis" (www.duoantithesis.com) has won top prizes in many prestigious international competitions, including the Schubert piano duo competition (Czech Republic), Caltanisetta chamber music competition, (Italy), Donostia Hiria music piano duo competition (Spain) and the Murray Dranoff Competition (U.S.A.) and has been performed extensively in Europe and the U.S.A.
