Archita Kumar is a tutor for the Kathak Introduction course at Morley College.
Her early Kathak training was at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (London), during which time she also trained in Hindustani Vocal and Sitar. Archita then trained with and worked for various companies including Triveni Dance Company, Pagrav Dance Company, Sujata Banerjee Dance Company, Akademi, Jose Agudo, to name a few. She also pursued further study of Kathak at the Kadamb Institute in India.
Archita has been Artist in Residence at the artsdepot and is a recipient of the Bonnie Bird Marion North Choreographic Mentoring Award. She is committed to supporting dancers at various points in their dance journey, from mentoring to providing professional Kathak coaching. She is also a Kathak tutor for the national youth dance programme CAT-Yuva Gati.
As a composer, Archita’s independent music releases have received BBC airplay. She has also created music for theatre and dance, including commissions by Sonia Sabri, Spin Arts, Sampad Arts. She has worked with percussion legend and composer Pandit Dinesh, lending her vocals to documentaries such as the BBC Indian Railway series. She has performed with Bollywood composer Pritam Chakraborty, and toured as a vocalist with Kasabian.
