Phillip is a writer and academic. He was Senior Lecturer in English & Creative Writing at the University of Wales, Newport, where he taught scriptwriting and drama modules of the BA and MA programmes. He has also lectured in interdisciplinary arts at Ohio University, speech communication at the University of Dubuque, and literature at the University of South Wales.
Previously, he worked as a professional theatre practitioner for over twenty years. He initially trained as an actor at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and appeared for new writing and touring companies, as well as for BBC TV. He was Artistic Director of True & False Theatre Company, and has directed theatre productions for several universities both in the US and UK, and at London Fringe venues.
Phillip’s plays have been staged at the Finborough Theatre and Riverside Studios in London, and also by Dirty Protest in Cardiff. His short stories have been published in leading literary journals, and he was also co-founder and Managing Editor of the arts website Wales Arts Review, for which he continues to contribute theatre criticism.
His latest play Panopticon is due to be staged in London in 2019.
