Black History Month at Morley
At Morley College we pride ourselves on the fact that our tutors are working professionals as well as teachers.
Our tutors come from all walks of life with eclectic backgrounds, ranging from performing in the West End to exhibiting in art galleries. One tutor who comes with a wealth of experience is tailoring tutor Daniel Kinne.
Daniel has over 15 years experience in fashion. Now in his third year teaching tailoring at Morley he began teaching at Parson School of Design in New York.
During that time he has worked with tailoring teams on Carnaby Street that has made suits for James Bond and the Royal livery, as well as dignitaries from around the world.
The Bond connection has cropped up several times through his career, travelling to Brioni in Penne, on the east coast of Italy, to tour their facilities and see the suits made for Pierce Brosnan’s Bond.
In London Daniel was apprentice for master tailor Chris Lagos and cutter Brian Staples, the latter of which made the famous white dinner jacket for Roger Moore, and worked with Paul Frearson who tailors for the ultimate Bond legend Sean Connery.
Building from the skills he gained from these master tailors Daniel pursued a career in womenswear showing his designs on the catwalks of New York and London.
From this woven history and continuing to work as a professional tailor, Daniel brings his wealth of experience and skills from New York to Saville Row and now to Morley, teaching tailoring as well as the history of fashion.
