Student Executive Committee

The Student Executive Committee (SEC) takes up issues raised at CRA meetings and from a wider remit, to progress the student voice across College organisation and management throught the year. It is made up of students who represent a wide range of interests and specialities. It is the official student voice on key College bodies and committees.

The SEC meet several times every term to discuss and plan work to do with:

The SEC aims to:

The SEC provides members, with full voting and speaking rights, to the College's Governing Body and the Governing Body's committees. The SEC Chair also attends the termly Class Representatives' meetings with the Principal.

Who can serve on the SEC?

Any Morley student can serve on the SEC. The committee is mainly made up of elected class and club representatives, and directly elected students. The only qualification which is essential is the commitment to put in the time and work on fellow students' behalf. You do not have to be an expert in committee working, for example. Be prepared to choose your area of work. Immediate results are not required - willingness to learn enough to be able to make a contribution is.

When do elected students take their places on the SEC?

SEC members take their places on the committee on Student Representation Day, held on the fourth Saturday of the Autumn term.

For how long do SEC members serve?

SEC members' term of office is one year, from one Student Representation Day to the next. They must remain enrolled students to continue serving between the start of the second academic year and Student Representation Day. There is no limit on the number of years a student may serve, but there is a three-year limit on the number of consecutive years the Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary may serve.

What happens on Student Representation Day?

This is when the Class Representatives Association, Clubs and the Student Executive Committee hold their Annual General Meetings (AGMs). The Class Representatives and the Clubs elect from their number to student representative places on the SEC. Those who have been directly elected to the SEC by popular vote of enrolled students also take their places on the SEC on that day. There are ten places for class reps, five for club officers and five for those directly elected.

Can anyone who has not been elected gain a place on the SEC?

The SEC can co-opt enrolled students to fill any vacancies and can co-opt another two enrolled students.

How do I know when the elections are taking place?

Election information is posted on SEC noticeboards in the College, including the timetable of the direct elections. Direct election nomination forms and guidance notes are available at the beginning of the Autumn term in the foyer of the main building. The SEC places an announcement about all the elections in class registers at the beginning of each Autumn term. Your class representative should read this out to the class then.
