Student representation at Morley is provided for in the Constitution of Students' Representative Bodies, which provides for election for the academic year to one of the representative bodies, the Student Executive Committee (SEC). The other representative body is the Class Representatives Association (CRA). A brief guide to how the student representative constitution works in practice and to who does what is given below.
The Constitution of Morley Clubs (Interim) is a separate document. To apply to form a new Morley Club, please use this application form.

Class Representatives' Association
Aims
The Class Representatives' Association works on behalf of Morley students and offers them a voice in College affairs. It is a valuable and influential link between students and College management.
Representation
Each class is entitled to elect a representative to the Class Representatives' Association. Students elected by their classes meet with the Principal each term to discuss issues of concern and share news and information.
The CRA elects ten students to the Student Executive Committee each year. At the beginning of each Autumn Term the SEC provides an announcement about the elections to the SEC through class registers. The SEC asks each class representative to read out the announcement to the class. See the SEC section below for further explanation of the elections to the SEC.

Student Executive Committee
What is the Student Executive Committee (SEC)?
The SEC is Morley students' voice in how the College is run. With the Class Representatives' Association, the SEC represents students' needs, requirements and views to the College's management.
What does the Student Executive Committee do?
Anyone working on the committee helps the College to provide a better Morley experience for all students. We meet several times every term to discuss and plan work to do with:
- Any matter, educational, social or recreational, affecting Morley students
- Morley clubs and societies (apply to us if you want to set up a new one)
- Morley Magazine
The Student Executive Committee provides members, with full voting and speaking rights, to the College's Governing Body and the Governing Body's committees, as listed below.
The Student Executive Committee's Chair keeps in close touch with the Principal and attends the termly Class Representatives' meetings with the Principal.
How to contact the SEC
Post: Please address your letter to The Chair, SEC, c/o the College Office and leave it at the Front Desk.
Email: sec@morleycollege.ac.uk
The SEC's objectives
The Student Executive Committee (SEC) aims to:
- Represent the needs, requirements and views of all Morley students to the College's management in a constructive way
- Recruit and welcome new members to ensure the widest possible representation
- Work through the College's Governing Body and its committees and through sub-committees of the SEC
- Encourage new members to contribute to these committees or to "understudy" them
- Communicate regularly with students and staff, for example through: minutes of its meetings, the Chair's reports to the Class Representatives Association, Morley Magazine and the College's website.
Who can serve on the Student Executive Committee?
Any Morley student can serve on the SEC. The committee is mainly made up of elected class and club representatives, and directly elected students. The only qualification which is essential is the commitment to put in the time and work on fellow students' behalf. You do not have to be an expert in committee working, for example. Be prepared to choose your area of work. Immediate results are not required - willingness to learn enough to be able to make a contribution is.
When do elected students take their places on the SEC?
SEC members take their places on the committee on Student Representation Day, held on the fourth Saturday of the Autumn term.
For how long do SEC members serve?
SEC members' term of office is one year, from one Student Representation Day to the next. They must remain enrolled students to continue serving between the start of the second academic year and Student Representation Day. There is no limit on the number of years a student may serve, but there is a three-year limit on the number of consecutive years the Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary may serve.
What happens on Student Representation Day?
This is when the Class Representatives Association, Clubs and the Student Executive Committee hold their Annual General Meetings (AGMs). The Class Representatives and the Clubs elect from their number to student representative places on the SEC. Those who have been directly elected to the SEC by popular vote of enrolled students also take their places on the SEC on that day. There are ten places for class reps, five for club officers and five for those directly elected.
Can anyone who has not been elected gain a place on the SEC?
The SEC can co-opt enrolled students to fill any vacancies and can co-opt another two enrolled students.
How do I know when the elections are taking place?
Election information is posted on SEC noticeboards in the College, including the timetable of the direct elections. Direct election nomination forms and guidance notes are available at the beginning of the Autumn term in the foyer of the main building. The SEC places an announcement about all the elections in class registers at the beginning of each Autumn term. Your class representative should read this out to the class then.
Morley Magazine
How is the Editor of Morley Magazine chosen?
The SEC votes to appoint the Editor of Morley Magazine. If the post falls vacant for any reason, the post is advertised in the College. The Editor is ex officio a member of the SEC.
