Bruce Denny, a former sculpture student at Morley, has been commissioned to create a bronze sculpture as a memorial to Boris Johnson's former deputy mayor.

The artist has been asked to produce a life size model of Sir Simon Milton, who died in April 2011 following a 20 year battle with leukaemia. Once completed the sculpture will be permanently displayed in Paddington Basin, one of London's largest regeneration projects in which Sir Simon was instrumental.

Bruce Denny was a friend of Sir Simon Milton, and one of Milton's last visits before his death was to one-man exhibition of Denny's work in Soho Square. Denny plans to use personal photos of Milton as inspiration  and hopes to reflect his friend's "visionary approach, quiet exterior and inner strength" with the piece.

Denny himself says he became an artist 'by accident', following a career in IT in the City. After becoming bored with his job he enrolled on a sculpture course at Morley, and a new career was born.

He is now a successful artist, exhibiting widely across London and producing private commissions. One of his most notable commissions to date has been The Conversion of St Paul, a bronze sculpture produced to mark the 300th anniversary of St Paul's Cathedral.
