Morley Gallery: Lambeth Prospects
This exhibition draws on the most historically and visually interesting images from the 50,000 or so items in the visual collection at Lambeth Archives. These views, in media including oil, watercolour, print and photography, give a rarely-seen insight into Lambeth over the centuries. If focuses on the north of the borough’s transition from a riverside village, to a Victorian industrial centre and then to today’s diverse 21st century community, but also on the development of its suburbs in Brixton, Streatham, Clapham and Norwood.
Lambeth Archives is the local studies library and record office for the London Borough of Lambeth area. Its role is to collect and make available material about Lambeth and its people past and present. It is part of Lambeth Council’s library service.
As part of the exhibition, Jon Newman, Manager of Lambeth Archives, will be giving a couple of free talks on the history of Lambeth. Talks will take place on Wednesday 22 February at 3.10pm and 6pm. Follow the links for further information.
