Morley Gallery: TEN PAINT TWENTY TWELVE
TEN PAINT TWENTY TWELVE brings together new work by artists participating in the Advanced Painting Workshop at Morley College, led by Dr Guillem Ramos-Poqui, a leading figure in Arte Povera.
Themes of memory, identity and a sense of place find expression in work that ranges from the exploration of figuration and formlessness, imagined versus depictive landscapes and responses to contemporary materialism. TEN PAINT TWENTY TWELVE provides an exclusive opportunity to both view and purchase distinctive artworks produced by emerging professional painters.
The artists:
- Meleny Batstone-Carr - memories and intuition provide a vehicle from which to explore internal and external events.
- Jade Chorkularb - we are all prey to desires; we all desire the trappings of life; can we ever escape them?
- Ceri Davies - themes of loss and memory are explored through colour to create an interior spaciousness on canvas.
- Tony Goddard - layers, glazes and texture reflect an unease at the meeting of landscape, figuration and the urban
- Mary Goodwin – a passion for unexpected juxtapositions and serendipitous alignments contributes to her final images.
- Carol Lee – human forms attempt to catch a hidden essence, paint functioning as a conduit between inner and outer.
- Conchita Lucas-Currie - layers of colour, pattern and ghostly landscapes evoke memories of time and place.
- Eleana Pinglo - chooses not to start her paintings with a pre-conceived narrative but to instead allow iconographical elements to flow free.
- Laura Thomson - the materiality of paint explores relationships between physical embodiment and insubstantiality.
- Kitty Wass - roots her work in the natural world, threading myths and stories into her imagery.
