Humanities information

Our courses offer a wide range of areas and levels of study, and seek to provide commentary and discussion on developments in the humanities and social sciences, as well as creative support in writing and poetry. New for 2011/12, we also offer a number of courses aimed at developing your work and life skills, from writing plain English to tax advice.

Counselling

We offer qualifications in Counselling which are accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB). Whether studying at Introductory Level, which enables you to explore some of the basics of counselling, or studying for a Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies, you will be fully supported and guided as you develop counselling skills and techniques.

Creative writing

There are many opportunities for you to develop your writing skills. Our offer includes journalism, screenwriting, writing for television, writing fiction for children and teenagers, memoir writing and writing your own poetry, as well as general classes where you can work on a wide variety of creative writing projects. Many of the classes offer different starting levels from complete beginners through to advanced creative writing.

Social science

If you are looking to develop skills which are relevant to your work then our social science courses, which include psychology, sociology, social policy and social work, will be of particular interest to you. Those considering retirement in the next couple of years may benefit from our pre-retirement course which is run by the highly successful consultancy Life Academy and gives you a chance to consider and plan for a range of changes including financial matters.

Humanities

Within the humanities offer there are the traditional subjects of literature, history and philosophy as well as film and theatre studies: the perfect chance to study an intellectual interest in more depth or critically engage with current productions taking place in London’s theatres and cinemas.
