About the staff

Morley is proud to have teaching staff who are practitioners and experts in their fields.  Here we take a look at some of the other work they are doing, outside of teaching at the College.

Dominic Grant, Head of Drama Department & Drama Lecturer

Dominic Grant
Since the summer of 2007, Dominic has been working on the Steven Berkoff stage adaptation of the film 'On the Waterfront'  - a project which is attracting lots of media interest.  'On the Waterfront' will be going into the West End this summer.  Dominic has also been involved in drama outreach work with 'Cardboard Citizens', a professional theatre company for homeless people in the UK.

Tim Taylor, Drama Lecturer

Tim Taylor
Tim Taylor teaches the Acting: an Introduction course (1.30 - 3.30 / 6.30 - 9.00) on Fridays across three terms: September to June. He has been working primarily as a teacher for ten years, across the following areas: drama, dance, performance studies, basic literacy, study skills and English for speakers of other languages. He is in his fourth year of teaching at Morley College and is also teaching regularly at City Lit College. In addition to his teaching work, Tim also continues to work as a performer in a variety of contexts, including straight drama, contemporary dance and popular music, and he is also writing for live comedy performance and devised theatre.

Brian Sewell, Presentation Skills Lecturer

Brian Sewell
After a distinguished musical career as an orchestral player, appearing on all the major concert platforms in Europe and America, Brian has turned his talents as a Master Class Director and Teacher/Trainer to helping people overcome the natural fears of Public Speaking and Presenting in Public. He has run courses and workshops in presentation skills since 1994 and helped a wide variety of people, from teenagers on the point of exclusion to top executive. His friendly and relaxed style disguises the skills he puts to use in his training sessions; he learnt NLP techniques and application from Dr. Richard Bandler, Paul McKenna and Micheal Breen. This gives his work a sure footing for the future of anyone who attends his training sessions. The work and achievements of the training room last and remain effective in any situation. Clients ‘Learn by Doing' and everyone is encouraged to develop their own style.

Anne Garrett, Drama Lecturer

Anne Garrett
Ann Garrett trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, and after leaving toured colleges, schools, prisons and community centres as an actor with Theatre Centre Ltd. She has read poetry and appeared in plays on Anglia TV, directed many productions in colleges of education, and taught at Rose Bruford College for Theatre and Performing Arts. As well as acting and directing she has written scripts for BBC Drama Workshop radio programmes, two of which were published by Nelson Education. More recently she was head of Media and Performing Arts at Stanmore College, was a founder member of the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon, where a studio was named after her, and taught a PGCE course in media and performance at Greenwich University. Ann also continues to write and perform her own poetry as a performance artist.

Duncan James

Duncan James
Duncan James teaches the Voice for Work and Play course at Morley College. A teacher of voice for over 15 years, his work has been inspired by a number of factors, including beginning life as a speaker of Welsh and learning English as a second language; a passion for Welsh singing; his ability to improvise as a jazz pianist; and his own studies with vocal coach Frankie Armstrong. Through his work outside the College, Duncan has also gained an excellent understanding of the communication issues faced by people with learning difficulties.
These individual aspects have all resulted in a natural curiosity in, and enjoyment of, the voice as an instrument and means of personal expression.
