The Department invites you to join us through our varied programme of courses. We welcome everyone from absolute beginners to the more advanced. For those new to dance we offer introductory courses designed specially for those who lack experience and confidence in their abilities. 'Basic' and 'Developing' courses are aimed at those who have a little experience and more confidence. 'Improvers' and 'Advanced' courses are aimed at those with more experience and expertise. 'General' courses provide for a range of abilities and experience.

Those with a vocational interest in becoming workshop leaders or performers are offered a range of courses in dance and drama accredited by the Open College. For further information about courses leading to the award of an Access certificate, please contact  the Department Secretary.

For your own safety, you are advised to seek medical advice if you have any history of injury or illness and inform your tutor of any such condition (past or present) and the nature of any physical activity that you should avoid. Students returning to dance after a break should inform the tutor if they lack a good level of fitness and work gently at first.

Regular attendance and a willingness to work co-operatively with others are essential in these subject areas. You should in particular make every effort to attend the first session of your course during which course induction procedures will take place.

For your own safety and well-being, it is not possible to start courses after the third week of term. We are working towards making Morley fully accessible. However, we regret that some of these courses may not be suitable for wheelchair users. Please enquire at the Enrolment Desk for further information.

Clothing & Shoes

For all practical courses, please wear clothing that does not restrict your movement and allows you to adapt to changes in your body temperature.

Remember that for movement courses closely fitting, but non-restrictive clothes will allow your tutor to see your work more clearly. Short skirts or tight jeans are not suitable in dance and drama courses as they restrict your actions. Footwear varies according to the course and in some courses you may be required to work in bare feet (not socks).

If you are not sure what is appropriate, please be prepared to work in clean soft soled shoes for your first session and consult the Course Information Form, your tutor or the Dance office before purchasing footwear.
